Pastors at a Men's Meeting

This past Saturday I traveled to La Paloma, Rocha for a bimonthly men’s meeting.  The men from a group of five or six Baptist churches band together for fellowship and to encourage one another.  Usually this event is held in one of the churches in the Montevideo area, and as a result has a much higher attendance.  However, this month’s meeting was located three hours northeast on Uruguay’s Atlantic coast.  The reason for the meeting was to encourage a new church plant.  One of the the lay pastors from Montevideo is planning to retire to La Paloma.  He will be retiring from a military career in the near future.  As you can see this location in one of the more beautiful in Uruguay.

A small group of believers has already asked for his help in establishing a Baptist church.  At present they are meeting in each other’s homes for Bible studies on a sporadic basis.

On Saturday we had the opportunity to do some canvassing in one of the outlying neighoborhoods, and to scout a possible location for a future church building site.

We found the people in the neighborhood we were canvassing to be friendly, but also very busy.  This is the tail end of the tourist season for them.  As a result they tend to work almost around the clock to make enough money to be able to make it through the rest of the year.  Would you please pray that this church plant will take off, and that many more will be saved in La Paloma?

The next Men’s Meeting will be held the end of May in Salinas.  This is another church plant that is in a bedroom community of Montevideo in the department of Canelones.  There is also another tentively being planned for September in Pando.  Hope to see you there!
