We are in the process of deciding on language schools / tutors.
Last Friday, we visited La Herradura. If my Spanish is correct, the school’s name means horseshoe. La Herradura is located in one of the busier sections of Montevideo. Perhaps that is the reason for the name.
In talking with the director, we discovered that his partner is from Holland. I offered to teach him Dutch in exchange for free Spanish lessons. The courses at the school are quite expensive. So far he has not taken me up on my offer!

What did you decide about language school?

We are still sorting out our renting situation. Until we have the basic necessities of food, clothing, and shelter; language study will be less important.
However, as you can see it does not mean that it is unimportant. In addition to this school, I have connected with two others individual teachers. I will connect with a third next week. These three teachers offer various levels of language instruction.
As of right now, I plan to start out with one or two private language teachers. As my Spanish progresses, I will then switch to a group setting such as La Herradura.
This decision is based somewhat on cost, but also on the desire to not let my ear become lazy by listening to the same person all the time. In addition, multiple teachers will be able to help my by assisting me with their specialties.
Something that may be of interest to some of you is LACE or Language Acquisition for Cross Cultural Effectiveness.
