Estimado Pastor y Hermanos:

Pastor Pablo Harmon

Visits from the US are always special.  A week ago we enjoyed fellowshipping with a student and teacher from Maranatha Baptist Bible College.  Jonathan has the desire to serve the Lord in a Spanish speaking country.  Around Christmas time this past year he visited Peru.  After surveying that country, he then turned around and visited us and the Secrest family here in Uruguay.

When he arrived at the new international airport, he discovered that he had flown in with the soccer team from Northland Baptist Bible College.  They were here to help with the Duarte and Vallette families serving with Gospel Mission of South America.  He also discovered that his two bags had been lost somewhere at La Guardia.  Fortunately, Jonathan could almost be my twin and so for three days until his clothes arrived he was able to borrow some of mine.

After taking him on a brief tour of Montevideo, we traveled the 2.5 hours up to Durazno.

Felicia loved having another Uncle to play with for a few days.  Jo Anna also enjoyed chatting and sharing insights on Uruguay.

Sunday night, Jonathan gave a lesson on, “How we got Bible and why it can be trusted.”  A few nights later he duplicated this lesson for our neighbors who popped in for a visit around 10pm.  Praise the Lord for yet another opportunity to witness to them as the direct result of Jonathan being with us.

Thank you Jonathan for your gracious testimony, your encouragement to us, and for bringing some much needed items down for us.  Our feet will be much better shod as we give out the Gospel of peace.

May the Lord bring you back to Uruguay as soon as possible.

Every year Uruguay celebrates children’s day. Children have a special place in a country with a small population of just under 3.5 million people. Many children receive more presents from their parents on this day than an average child in the US would receive at Christmas. Schools often have special games or foods for children as well. Felicia’s preschool set aside one entire afternoon for the children to play on a giant trampoline, air castles, and enjoy a gymnasium. Families gather together for special meals and memories. Churches often plan activities and stories geared towards children.

Our emphasis in Durazno is reaching adults with the Gospel. However, we are unwilling to do this at the expense of the Gospel not reaching children. As a result this coming Saturday we will be inviting several children to our home. We plan to share the Gospel and enjoy a good time together. Please pray that several of these children that we are inviting will come to our home and meet our Savior.

Awhile has gone by since my last post update.  Our Bible studies are continuing with various people.

Recently, we have had some opportunities to visit some folks in the local hospital.  As winter comes on and the temperatures become wet and cold folks due tend to be more sick than normal.

One of our neighbors has his 94 year old brother in the hospital.  This past Sunday I had the chance to go and pay him a visit.  He slept through most of the visit, but his three other family members did not.

Please pray that the Lord will use His Word to impact this family for Him.

UPDATE:

This past Saturday this man went out into eternity.  His widow granted me the opportunity to speak beside his casket in the funeral home.  (This is the closest thing to a funeral service here in Uruguay.)  For about 10 minutes I had a chance to speak on John 11 and the comfort that can be ours if we place our sole faith in Christ.  Please pray for us as we visit the family to once again share the Gospel.  2 Cor. 4:1-6
